I trust that you pray for your Pastor and the leadership in your church.
“Bless the Pastor” is a wonderful prayer and I’m grateful for each person who asks God for his blessing on the leadership at their church. But if you have specific concerns about your church (or your pastor), the best way to begin to address those concerns is to take them to the Lord in prayer. And if you don’t have concerns and aren’t sure how to pray for your pastor…well, that’s where this post comes in.
Below, in no particular order, are 15 requests I pray for my husband as he serves as lead pastor of our church. I ask God to give him:
- Clear, biblical thinking
- Loving, gracious interaction
- Courage to say what needs to be said, no matter who he’s talking to
- A heart to win souls for Jesus
- Purity—in thought, word, and deed
- Leadership born out of biblical convictions
- Strong, heartfelt, expositional preaching
- A heart of forgiveness
- Ability to work from a place of joy, fueled by his faithful abiding in God’s Word
- Wisdom leading and working with church leaders
- Protection from the many assaults on his mind
- Involvement and influence in the community
- Healthy mind and body
- Love his wife as Christ loves the church
- Loving, consistent discipline and training of his children

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). May our prayers have great power that results in the glory of God and the furtherance of his kingdom!
